Regarding textile industry, OEKO-TEX® certification guarantees quality and sustainability. If you don’t know what it means, we’ll reveal its importance to customers in this article.
THON’s mission is to deliver high-quality bedding that protects the people and the planet. So, to address the concern of consumers to make more conscious choices, all our products are tested against harmful substances. Thus, we protect you, our master artisans, and, of course, the environment.
And this is where STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certifications comes in. This certification makes sure that you are buying chemical-free products. But what are the requirements to get this certification? What are the benefits of OEKO-TEX® certified home textiles? That’s what we’ll see in this article.
What is OEKO-TEX®?
This certification is acquired if all final product components are free of chemical and toxic substances. This means that, at THON, every component of our pieces is tested. Everything is included, the yarns, fabrics, buttons, zippers, lining, and even the sewing material. That’s why we rely on only certified suppliers who connect with our values and mission.
Given the rigorous testing our products undergo, our bed and bath linen is recommended for sensitive or acne-prone skin and for all ages, including babies.
How are the products tested?
This certification can be acquired by various products, from furniture to bedding sets crafted from sustainable or natural fibers, such as Egyptian Cotton™ or TENCEL™ Lyocell.
When a product is Oeko-Tex® certified, it has been tested against a range of harmful substances that are damaging to health, such as formaldehyde, nickel, and azo dyes. Substances that are not legally banned but pose a risk to human health are also on the list of materials to be disposed of.
These tests are performed once a year. When the certification expires, new samples are required to conduct new tests. However, the tests may differ depending on the finished products' use and user "type". So, OEKO-TEX® has divided the products into four classes:
Class I: Products for babies and/or toddlers.
Class II: Products that come into direct contact with the skin.
Class III: Products with little or no skin contact. These are mainly products like coats, belts, and other accessories.
Class IV: Textiles and decor products, e.g., furniture and curtains.
Therefore, eco-friendly and human requirements are higher when it comes to products that frequently come into contact with our skin. THON’s products belong to class I and are subjected to many tests to ensure they are safe.
The importance of OEKO-TEX® certification
Through the tests performed, the OEKO-TEX® system can identify harmful and toxic substances and eliminate them by chemically changing the material.
With this, although it isn’t related to the quality indicators such as prestigious textiles or thread count, this certification provides assurance that you are buying eco-friendly products, like sustainable bedding.
To ensure that your bed linen is certified, check the validity of the certification by looking at the number on the OEKO-TEX® label. If your product isn't certified, you should contact OEKO-TEX®. Please note that the OEKO-TEX® logo has recently changed, so labels may vary.
Innovation and safety drive THON. So when you buy our bed and bath linen, you are getting home textiles that comply with all safety regulations and can be enjoyed by everybody.
OEKO-TEX® also proves our commitment to the planet, as the tests are thought regarding the use of polluting and health-damaging substances. With this system, our products give you safety and comfort, bringing Nature into your home sustainably.
